What Is Amnesia Self Help?
Our vision is to develop this self help group to support
Amnesia patients and their family/friends across Europe.
Many people are affected as a result of amnesia in many different forms. Unfortunately
due to the complexities of the brain, our knowledge as to the cause and effects
of amnesia is not well known in the field of Neurology or Psychiatry.
From personal experiences, we have found that the best therapy has been to speak to other amnesiac patients or their family. This
goes especially to the family who have to deal with the new image of their
loved one. It is best to try and teach amnesia patients on the good and bad
things that come with each different situation. Whether it has to do with a
daily situation or for example: the reactions of amnesia patients in a
normal social environment. Strategies have to be found to assist in the smooth
running of normal daily life. To try and assist the brain in finding ways to
remember or store information by using brain training methods such as the
memory game.
The group is in contact with Prof. Dr. Hans J. Markowitsch, one of the leading European experts
on Amnesia and is currently the Head of Physiological Psychology at the University of Bielefeld, Germany.
We hope this will assist in making contact with other competent Psychologists
and Neurologists throughout the world.
